Top Three Books to Read in 2023

The year 2022 is coming to a close, and many people will soon start to make new year resolutions. One of mine is to read more books in the coming year. If we have the same resolution, here are three books I love that I recommend you pick up next year (or right now).

1. Influence: Science and Practice by Robert B. Cialdini

This book is one of my favorite nonfiction books. It discusses different human behavior phenomena, and how they can be used in marketing. This book opens your eyes to the many different ways companies try to persuade you to do what they want. As a marketing and public relations student, it is interesting to observe these practices happen in everyday life and also provides food for thought on how to use these practices ethically or even at all.

2. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie is one of my favorite authors, and even though I read this book several years ago it is still one of my favorites. As it is easy to tell from the title, it is a murder mystery that I can almost promise you will jump out of nowhere at the end. It is so startling I still remember who the culprit is, even though I cannot say the same about many of the other books I have read from her.

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

This is another classic that is one of my favorite books. It tells the life of Jane Eyre, an orphan who lives a very lonely, hard life throughout her childhood. When she obtains a governess position, she ends up falling for the master of the house, Rochester. The longer she is there, however, she quickly realizes that not everything is as it seems. I love this book because I admire the heroine, Jane, so much. She has so much misfortune happen to her throughout the book even though she is so close to happiness many times. No matter how hard it is, however, she always does what she believes is the right thing to do, even if it means loneliness. She also always values herself and her integrity and doesn’t let people trample on her.

There are many other books that I love, but these should get you started on some of the best. Let me know what books I missed in the comments section. Have a wonderful 2023.
